Joshua Tree National Park is located in southeastern California. It's situated at the crossroads of the Mojave Desert and the Colorado Desert. Perfect for your getaway as it is 2-3 hours from Los Angeles. Soon after you get out from the cities your scenic drive starts as you will pass through the Palm Spring windmills and enjoy the dessert views around.
As your drive goes further and you will follow your 62 highway you will be welcomed to stop at cute little marts and get you mini cactus, aloe, or other native plant. Passing Morongo Valley, Yucca Valley brings you closer to the heaven place. There are plenty of places for food and drinks, so take a rest from the drive before going to the park.
Your street to turn right is Park Blvd., at Joshua Tree. There you can stop at the Visitor center and get some information for the trails, buy some souvenirs and talk to the rangers. It is the best if you can spend the night in some of the nearby motels or airbnbs or just camp because you will not want to leave the same day, believe me :)
Ok, so I guess now you are ready to go to the entrance. If you are lucky you can just pass the ranger without paying or be ready for $35 per car. Coming from Park Blvd. at Joshua Tree Village it will take you 5 miles to the West Entrance. The North Entrance is in Twentynine Palms. You can drive through the whole park inside and get out from that spot back on 62 highway. There is a South Entrance, too near Cottonwood Springs. It is an access point from Interstate 10 freeway.
So, I really like to get the sunset there (but of course every part of the day and every season has its own charm). Hope you enjoy these captures below from Sep2022 around 6-7pm.
And now let me share some of my experience in Joshua Tree. Not being yet to all trails and spots but the one i really love and visit every time is the Cap Rock. (just to mention that we got married there between two beautiful trees as a wedding arch, formed by nature).
So, Cap Rock is one of the notable rock formations in Joshua Tree National Park. It is located in the northern part of Joshua Tree National Park, easily accessible from the main road. It's near the popular Hidden Valley area. This large rock resembles a cap or hat, and it's of course result of the erosion. Cap Rock has cultural significance as it was a location where early California cattle ranchers, branded their cattle. You can still find remnants of the branding on the rocks. The area around Cap Rock is surrounded by various hiking trails, making it a great starting point to explore further. You can enjoy the unique flora and fauna of the Mojave Desert. Cap Rock is known for offering fantastic views, especially during sunset. Grab a chair or if you can climb a little bit higher for an awesome view (but take a good flashlight).
